Welcome
Welcome to Year 3! This year marks the end of KS1 as children move into KS2, opening up new possibilities to broaden their knowledge, skills and understanding throughout the curriculum. We will continue to develop children’s curiosity and nurture their passion and enthusiasm for learning.
Here, you can find an overview of the Year 3 Curriculum. You can use this information to discuss with your child what they have learned and continue to support their learning at home.
What’s happening this half-term?
Maths:
- Addition and subtraction
- Multiplication and division
English:
Talk for Writing unit: Orion and the Dark - Adventure Story
Talk for Writing unit: How to trap a skeleton - Instructions
Geography: Rivers - The River Mersey
We will be learning about the parts of a river and the River Mersey
Science: Light.
We will be looking at what is light, how shadows are formed and what are reflections.
Art: Gestural drawing with charcoal.
We will look at the artists Laura KcKendry and Degas, understand Chiaroscuro means light and dark.
Computing: We are communicators.
We will use email to work collaboratively.
Religious Education: Who is a Hindu and what do they believe in?
We will look at the fundamentals of the Hindu faith and how they celebrate.
PHSE:

Music:
- Timing beats
- Instrument focus: recorders
French: Introducing French.
We will be learning the numbers 0-6, greetings and classroom phrases
P.E:
Remember to come into school wearing your PE kit on the following days.
- Outdoor Games - Friday
Kit: Trainers, black shorts or tight-fitting black leggings, and a plain white t-shirt (a tracksuit top and joggers may be worn if cold)
- Dance and Gymnastics - Tuesday
Kit: Black shorts or tight-fitting black leggings and a plain white t-shirt.
Forest Schools:
Forest Schools for Year 3 will be on Friday 13th September 2024 . Please ensure your child comes on clothes that can get muddy, sensible outdoor shoes, warm clothes if cold and a water-proof coat.
Reading:
In class we are currently reading:

Please read with your child every day and comment in their reading record when you do. Reading books should be in school everyday for independent reading and will be changed regularly.
Homework:
Spellings will be sent out every Friday to learn for a spelling test the following Friday.
