2M 2019 - 2020

Mr Mason

Hello and welcome to 2M's class page. This year your child will be working with Mr Mason and Mrs Malik. We will keep this page updated with all the fun and exciting things that we do as well as any key information that can help your child.

Working with children at home

Please understand that these activities are merely suggestions for things you could do at home. We understand that every family is dealing with this situation differently. The Year 2 team has no expectations for the amount or quality of work which is completed.

If you can, try to find some time for:

Reading, with you and by themselves, and talk about what they have read.

Learn some times tables

Write something for a purpose, like a letter or email to a relative or neighbour. Or a diary of this event.

We are all trying our best to navigate this situation.

Please find below the work set for your children to do during the school closure. The work that we have provided is optional for you to complete. Each week we will put a new set of work on the school website for you to access and download. All of the work that has been set so far during the closure can be found on our Google Drive. To go to the Google Drive please click here. It can also be found in the zip folder below.

If you are using a mobile phone to access the work sent, then you will need to get the work from the Google Drive.

All of the resources that we are providing you with do not require a printer. You can complete the work on the computer or use a piece of paper to write them out.

Some weeks there will also be work on the VLE (virtual learning environment) to complete. If you have any questions about the work set or how to find your children's login details please email year2@almapark.manchester.sch.uk and a member of staff will get back to you as soon as possible.

You also have access to the following websites. If you need their login details please email year2@almapark.manchester.sch.uk

English

This week we are going to write our own version of The Disgusting Sandwich.

Monday –Listen to the YouTube clip of the full story https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9fHpdswfYY. After that read through our shortened version of the text called The Disgusting Sandwich edited to remind yourself of the story. Draw a chart for Boxing It Up (there is one in the English folder if you want to use that or copy it) and box up the story. What do you think is the Beginning? Or the build up? You can use drawings or words to help you remember the parts.

I want you to change the badger for another animal and change some of the things which happen to the sandwich.

Tuesday – We are going to look at writing our own version of the beginning. In the English folder you will find a beginning written be another child. What do you like about it? What can be improved? I like some of the words used, but they don’t change the badger to another animal. I would change the animal if I were doing it.

WednesdayWe are going to look at writing our own version of the buildup and the start of the problem. In the English folder you will find the buildup and the start of the problem. written be another child. What do you like about it? What can be improved? I like the speech, but I think the sentence openers could be better. Also, I would change some of the animals.

Thursday We are going to look at writing our own version of the end of the problem and the resolution. In the English folder you will find the end of the problem and the resolution written be another child. What do you like about it? What can be improved? I like the use of because, but I think it needs some more conjunctions. Also, I would change some of the animals and use a list sentence.

FridayWe are going to look at writing our own version of the ending of the story. In the English folder you will find the ending of the story written be another child. What do you like about it? What can be improved? I like the apostrophes, but I think it needs a question. Also, I would change some of the animals. You can share your ending (or the whole story) on the VLE homework page called The Disgusting Sandwich.

Maths

For the rest of this term we are going to make sure we cover the work for the expected standards in Maths for Year 2. We are going to check we fully understand how to add and subtract. This week you are going to follow these lessons from the Oak Academy- some might be tricky- but have a go. The teacher is exceptionally good (almost as good as Mr. Bullivant and Mr. Mason).

Topic
We are continuing to look at beaches. This week we are looking at how humans can affect beaches. In the Other Subjects folder there are two pictures of Formby Beach? Which do you prefer? Why? How might humans damage a beach? Think about the topic we did about litter at the VERY start of Year 2. How could litter damage the beach and the things which live there?  Design a poster to stop people dropping litter on the beach. Think about the type of material the litter will be made of, how it could affect food chains, how it can be dangerous to visitors and how it makes the beach look

Art

This week you are going to do a BBC Live Lesson, there are teacher notes for a grown up in the Other Subjects Folder. There are also 3 activity sheets, but you do not need to print them off, just draw on a piece of paper.

A way pollution and litter can affect animals is acid in the oceans. Watch the science lesson below to learn how to do an investigation to investigate this issue.

PSHCE

We are probably using computers and devices a lot more during school closure. So, it is important to keep safe. Follow these lessons to remind yourself to keep safe.
