1WH is taught by Mrs Wareing, Mrs Hand and supported by Miss Cannon.

Welcome to 1WH home page. Here you will get a taste of what is happening in our classroom on a weekly or termly bases. Use the pictures and information shared to discuss with your child what learning has taken place.

During this term we will be writing a non - chronological report about our own imaginary animal. We will learn how to organise our facts into groups under headings. Later in the term we will be reading Meercat Mail by Emily Gravett. We will use Talk for Writing to retell and rewrite the story, changing elements within the story. We will be looking at story sequecning and how to use conjunctions to extend our sentences.  .

In Maths we will be focusing on the place value of numbers up to 50. We will also be exploring length, height, weight and capacity. We will use a range of non-standard and standard units of measurement. Later in the term we learning about money and recognising different coins and notes. Then we will start to add and subtract money.

In Science we are learning about common animals such as mammals, amphibians, fish, birds, reptitles and what they look like, what they eat and how they move. We will be having a visit from the Creepy Crawly Show to start our new topic. The children will get to look at and handle a range of exotic animals if they so wish. We will be learning about animals that live in hot and cold climates. Children will continue to explore seasonal changes, exploring the changes and weather in winter and identfying different evergreen trees.

Our P.E days are Monday afternoon and Thursday morning. We ask that the children bring their PE kit in and leave it in school for the full half term and then they can take it home at the end of each half term to be washed.

Please can you ensure that all uniform and P.E kits are clearly labelled with your child's name.

Reading books are changed when your child puts their book and signed reading journal in the class blue tray. Don't forget Bug Club is a great way to electronically access books matching your child's reading level.

Please help your child practise their phonics using the websites recommended (phonics play and Teach Your Monster To Read).
